How to Configure Outlook for Microsoft 365?


  1. Once you have completed Office installations, go to the control panel/Outlook account profile.  
  2. Click on the Windows button and launch Outlook. 
  3. Choose a name for your profile. 
  4. Go to the advanced setup and click on Microsoft 365. 
  5. Add your official email address (e.g. and click on ‘connect’. 
  6. Choose an unique network ID (or, NetID) password. 
  7. Now, verify your identity through Duo multi-factor authentication. 
  8. Upon wizard configuration, Outlook will automatically connect your mailbox.  

The process is the same for MAC configuration.

Use Direct send, Microsoft 365, or Office 365 SMTP relay to send an email using SMTP Office 365. 

If your device/devices fail to configure/meet the requirements, try to manage an on-premise SMTP server to send messages from your device to others. 

4. Is SMTP the same as IMAP? 

Nom SMTP and IMAP are two different things. SMTP is for sending emails, while IMAP retrieves emails. SMTP deals with the server only to send emails and IMAP, however, deals with both the client and the server to receive emails.
